What did I just do?

The first week of homeschooling… what am I doing? Do the kids know I have no idea what I'm doing? I read way more information about teaching than I ever thought I would. I have ordered all the subject books. "I don't have the slightest fuck what I'm doing, but fake it till you make it. RIGHT?!"

It took about two days before they figured out, I was utterly pulling our lessons out of my ass. The lesson books were just as confusing as virtual school for all of us. Coming up with lessons and figuring out what everyone knew already wasn't fun, to say the least.

Do I try and teach what's on the checklist provided by the state? Are we sending them back to school next year or going to continue homeschooling? All this matters for what curriculum to choose from. Suppose we continue to homeschool, then I can teach how/whatever we want to learn. But, if they go back to public school, I have to make sure they can pass the state test. Thinking about the stress state tests put on kids is unreal. Does it matter when you learn about the civil war or state capitals? NO, it doesn't. Plus, as most people and I are learning, our education in school wasn't correct. Homeschooling would allow them to relax and learn to learn, not learn to pass a test. I also controlled what they learned by teaching them myself.

It became very apparent that what we were planning to do the next school year would directly affect my curriculum choice. There was so much stress around my next move. Homeschooling it is!
